 trustee, tao, susan banbury

I was born and raised in Auckland in a family of seven and I have four wonderful children of my own, 2 boys and 2 girls.

I have been a caregiver with the Barnardos organization and was involved in the running of the local play-centre.

I enjoy learning and have done many short courses including Hairdressing, Cake Decorating, Floral Art, Fabric Art, Woodwork and have completed Introduction to Small Business Management with Enterprise New Zealand.

I enjoy Rock n’ Roll and Ballroom Dancing.

I began my journey into Natural Therapies 16 years ago and am now qualified in Massage, Beauty and Reflexology therapies and as Reiki Master practitioner.

I am currently in training as Reiki Master Teacher moving towards my goal of becoming a teacher in a range of natural therapies, including Transcending Autism HPD.

I have a great love of children and I see my involvement with TAO Charitable Trust as my contribution to making the world a better place for all.

What is Autism?

If someone has autism, his or her brain has trouble with an important task; that is making sense of the world.  Each day, your brain interprets the sights, sounds and other stimuli.  If your brain couldn't help you understand these things, you would have trouble functioning, talking, going to school, and doing other everyday stuff.

Sadly there is no cure for autism, but doctors, therapists, and special teachers can help children with autism overcome or adjust to many difficulties.  The earlier a child starts treatment for autism, the better.

Some children with mild autism will grow up and be able to live on their own.  Those with more serious problems will always need some kind of help.  All children with autism have brighter and happier futures when they have the support and empathy of doctors, teachers, caregivers, parents, brothers, sisters, and friends.
