Livia Bagoly

trustee, livia bagoly, hpd therapist, transcending autism

My career began 30 years ago as a Child Development Specialist in Hungary, Europe. I studied at the University of Debrecen and hold a degree in Education with a major in Psychology and Pedagogy and a degree in Early Childhood Music Education - Music and Movement Kodaly Method. I am a member of the International Society on Early Intervention (ISEI) and the Kodaly Music Education Institute of Australia (KMEIA).

I have worked in many child development centres and early childhood settings building early intervention awareness, educating parents and professionals.

I am also an architectural and design specialist for Autism. In my current role, I am researching how the therapeutic environment can be designed to accommodate individuals with neurological problems, to increase their attention and perception as well as their health. I am using current research based information as a decision making tool in the design process, thereby integrating research and practice.

In 2005, I made a significant commitment to improving the lives of children living with Autism and their families. I am the innovative author of the Transcending Autism programme. This programme is based on Holistic Perception Developmentā„¢ principles. It is designed as an early intervention programme not just for the child but for the whole family. The programme is applicable to a range of settings.

I choose to dedicate my life to improving the lives of children and families affected by developmental disorders. One of my short term goals is to open a dedicated neuro-health developmental centre in Auckland running the Transcending Autism programme. A long term goal is to build an architecturally designed building which takes into account both general eco and environmental issues but also incorporating environmental design specifically with the spectrum of Autism in mind.

I serve as a Director for my own company, NeuroHealth Consulting and as Trustee for TAO Charitable Trust. I am a wife to Sandor and the mother of two children Daniel (22) and Livia (17). I love harmony in my life.

What is Autism?

If someone has autism, his or her brain has trouble with an important task; that is making sense of the world.  Each day, your brain interprets the sights, sounds and other stimuli.  If your brain couldn't help you understand these things, you would have trouble functioning, talking, going to school, and doing other everyday stuff.

Sadly there is no cure for autism, but doctors, therapists, and special teachers can help children with autism overcome or adjust to many difficulties.  The earlier a child starts treatment for autism, the better.

Some children with mild autism will grow up and be able to live on their own.  Those with more serious problems will always need some kind of help.  All children with autism have brighter and happier futures when they have the support and empathy of doctors, teachers, caregivers, parents, brothers, sisters, and friends.
